Two summers ago, while driving through Vermont, our party stopped for lunch in the town of Ludlow.

Life-sized llamas festooned the main street of the town.  They were painted in gloriously lively colors and were to be auctioned off to raise money for a local cause at the end of the summer.

Sarasota, Florida, with its rich circus heritage, is taking a different tack. Scattered throughout the downtown area are 50 clown statues. They were funded by various local businesses and individuals, and in April they will be auctioned off to provide funds for Tidewell Hospital and Palliative Care.

Many of the clowns are grouped in the Five Points Park area, others are near City Hall, and many are in other locations about town.

If you visit the area, be sure to take in “Clowning Around Sarasota.”
